Middle East & Europe: Fresh Produce Outlook for 2026
GCC demand is holding steady while European buyers turn to India for filling supply gaps. A quick read on where the opportunities are heading next.
Two trends are shaping the outlook for Indian fresh produce exporters in 2026. The first is that GCC demand — particularly for pomegranates and bananas — has held remarkably steady even through currency swings. UAE and Saudi retailers report double-digit growth in Indian-origin produce sales, driven by a preference for the Bhagwa pomegranate's soft seeds and sweetness.
The second, quieter trend is European buyers actively diversifying away from single-source supply. Ecuadorian banana disruptions in 2024 and Turkish pomegranate quality issues in early 2025 pushed importers in the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK to open Indian sourcing lines. Many of these are still small — a container a month — but with a clear upward trajectory.
For SLN specifically, this shift has meant new conversations with three major European chains in the last quarter alone. Our advice to buyers: lock in seasonal capacity now for the August–March pomegranate window. Prices are firm and reefer bookings out of Nhava Sheva are already tight.
